THE TELLURIDE
ADVENTURE WITH KIDS
Telluride Ski and Golf
Company has set out to make the family skiing vacation an
Adventure onto itself for everyone. Kids as young
as two months old and all the way up to teens can enjoy
family vacation that becomes an adventure at Telluride.
The
Little Ones (infant to 3 years of age)
Located at the Mountain
Village Activity Center, the Children's Center offers
nursery care for infants from two months to one year and
for toddlers ages 1 to 3 years. Trained
professionals with ratios of one staff for every two infants and one
staff for every five toddlers make sure these little
adventurers are well cared for. Parents are afforded the opportunity
to observe their children from the top,
unnoticed, through a glass koisk while the kids enjoy the
nursery's playroom. Infant gyms and plenty of toys
offer a range of activities. Toddlers have two
playrooms and there are three separate crib rooms that
offer these Telluride guests with a place to hang their
hats and take a nap.
Preschool
to Pre-teen (3 to 12 years of age)
The Adventure at Telluride
continues for children ages 3-12 with skiing lessons and
the opportunity to learn the history of Telluride at the
Children's Center. Ute Indians and Gold Miners (designed
for Children 3-6) wear special vests on the hills that
allow lift operators assist these special guests on the
lift. Explorers (ages 7-12) can also take
snowboarding lessons. Explorers, Ute Indians and
Gold Miners are divided into beginner, intermediate and
expert groups for lessons. Special activities themed
days complete this learning experience including safety,
race day, environment and history day. Environment
day can include a visit from Houdini, the Prairie Dog, or
Liberty, a bald eagle, from the Rocky Mountain Ark, a
non-profit wildlife facility.
The Children's Adventure
Club is available for Children enrolled in the Children's
Center. Before or after lessons, this club
runs from 8:45 to 10 a.m. and 3-4 p.m.
Reservations for the
Children's Center are recommended for Telluride
Adventurers to ensure that space is available.
Teens
and Young Adults
Telluride offers so much
for teens to enjoy that they will be asking their parents
to come along on this family vacation.
Telluride's Ski & Snowboard School
has developed its own Telluride Teaching System (TTSsm)
that offers alpine, snowboard, nordic and telemark
programs.
Lessons are customized for each participant.
Why not suggest your teen take a lesson to offer an
opinion on their unique program or just as a way of
learning new techniques and the lay of the land on the
hills. With 30 different programs to choose from,
everyone should be able to find one to suit their needs.
The ultimate adventure for
those snowboarding teens is Telluride's new Surge Air
Garden Terrain Park. Billed as the "largest
snowboard playground in the Southwest",
this
park, with over eight acres of berms, banks,
tabletops and pyramids (23 hits) is sure to be a hit with
any age snowboarder. The new "Rail Garden"
brings California to Colorado with new sliding rails.
Why not give Snowbiking a
try. Invented in Austria, with no pedals, blades
instead of wheels and skis strapped to your feet for extra
balance, mountain biking becomes a winter
adventure. You can even try this one at night
with the aid of a guide.
Teenagers and youths with
energy still to burn after a day on the hills can take
advantage of many other activities offered in the Town of
Telluride, including afternoon and evening programs at the
Youth Center. They can join in a game of basketball,
play video games and many other activities. The
local high school offers a climbing wall 3 evenings a week
or maybe a movie might be more to their liking for an
evening out.
