SILVER CREEK IS PERFECT
FOR FAMILIES THAT
ENJOY PLAYING TOGETHER
by Gretchen Bergen
SILVER CREEK, Colo. - Silver Creek Golf & Ski Ranch
was designed with families in mind.
Its central base lodge, groomed
terrain, and something-for-everyone amenities add up to a
great experience for families.
Silver Creek has 287 acres of skiable
terrain consisting of 30 percent beginner, 50 percent
intermediate and 20 percent advanced runs. Lifts for
all ski runs radiate from a central base lodge making it
easy for families to ski together, and for parents to keep
track of their kids. The entire East Mountain offers
beginner and intermediate terrain and connects at the base
to the West Mountain, where advanced skiers and boarders
find more challenging runs. Bear Bahn Park is a
separate area designed specifically for beginners and
includes a separate surface lift.
Night skiing is another family favorite. Silver
Creek has the second largest night skiing operation in
Colorado. Families enjoy skiing three runs and the
terrain park lit top-to-bottom. While kids ski under
the stars, adults may enjoy warm drinks or cocktails in
front of the fire in the lounge at the base lodge.
Beginners don't stay that way for long at
Silver Creek. World-renowned ski instructor and
author, Harald Harb, and his teaching partner, Diana
Rogers, help run the Accelerated Learning Center where
non-skiers learn to ski parallel on their first run.
As the exclusive Colorado licensee of the proven
Accelerated Skier Performance SystemTM, Silver Creek is
able to move beginning skiers to parallel, bypassing the
snowplow and wedge phases found in traditional teaching
systems. For an even greater challenge, skiers and
boarders can catch the daily free shuttle to and from
Silver Creek Golf & Ski Ranch.
The Accelerated Skier Performance System
cuts the normal learning curve by using a new bio-mechanically
efficient movement program instead of teaching forms that
later need to be unlearned. Students use the new shaped
PSX short skis developed especially for accelerated
learning. The skis are designed by the Elan Ski
Company.
Silver Creek has implemented a similar
system for learning to snowboard.
Harb created PMTS Direct Parallel? to shorten the time it
takes for a beginning skier to enjoy the sport.
"Typical beginner skiing programs fail to increase
skier retention rates," said Harb. "Skiers and
skiing deserve better and we are using it at Silver
Creek."
Harb and Diana Rogers, Vice President of Harb Ski Systems,
operate their Harb Skier Alignment Centers and Harb Ski
Systems Ski Camps from both Silver Creek and Berthoud Pass
ski area. The alignment centers tailor skiers'
equipment to achieve optimal alignment, which allows them
to ski in balance with less effort. The alignment
sessions include on-snow and indoor alignment evaluations.
During the session, Harb and Rogers modify the skier's
equipment, install alignment shims, do a before and after
video analysis and provide movement instruction.
Half-day, full-day and group sessions are available.
Harb and Rogers also offer six multi-day
camps in their proprietary PMTS Direct ParallelTM ski
instruction system for skiers of all levels.
