GRADE 5 SNOWPASS PROGRAM
AVAILABLE AGAIN FOR 7TH SEASON
(Canadian Ski Council, Toronto, ON) – The Canadian Ski Council (CSC) is
pleased to announce the launch of the Grade 5 SnowPass program for the 2003/04
snow season. The SnowPass program, now in its seventh year, was developed to
encourage kids and their families to participate in skiing and snowboarding.
During the 2002/03 snow season there were 30,500 applicants and 127,600 ski
area visits by SnowPass holders, a 21% increase from the previous season. The
CSC expects this growth trend to continue into the 2003/04 winter
ski/snowboard season and anticipates over 35,000 participants.
The Grade 5 SnowPass program offers free skiing/snowboarding to grade 5
children (or children born in 1993) in Canada. Valid for the entire 2003/04
season, the Grade 5 SnowPass offers three free days of skiing or riding at ski
areas in the province or region where the child lives. There are 98 ski areas
participating in the Canada East SnowPass book and 48 ski areas in the Canada
West SnowPass book. As well, the SnowPass book includes special offers from
some participating ski areas and retail outlets for discounts and great deals
on equipment, lift tickets, and lessons for the whole family.
SnowPass applications are now available online and can be accessed at
www.snowpass.org. Starting in early
November, SnowPass applications will be available at Sport Chek, Sport Mart,
Sports Experts and Intersport stores, elementary schools across Canada, as
well as at participating ski areas.
Many of this year's participating ski areas are offering a one-time additional
lift pass for the SnowPass holders to use the following season when the
student is in Grade 6-aimed to encourage them to continue skiing and
snowboarding. This great deal offers 2-year's of fun on the slopes, will keep
the participants active skiers and riders and is sure to hook them on skiing
and snowboarding for life!
The Canadian Ski Council (CSC) would like to sincerely thank each of the 146
participating ski areas for their support and contributions to this year’s
Grade 5 SnowPass program.
The CSC would also like to thank all of its contributing financial member
organization partners. Their help and support towards the CSC’s skier/rider
development programs is greatly appreciated. Supporters include: The National
Snow Industries Association, Canada West Ski Areas Association, Ontario Snow
Resorts Association, Quebec Ski Areas Association, Atlantic Ski Area
Association, Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance, Canadian Association of
Snowboard Instructors, the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation and Nissan Canada.
The great success that the CSC has had with the SnowPass program would not
have been possible without their help and contribution.
