"Oh,
Barnacles!' SpongeBob(TM) SquarePants Hits Holiday Inn(R) Hotels and
Resorts This Summer for the Return of 'Dinner's On Us'
Nickelodeon Partnership Brings Plankton Pancakes and The Krabby Korner to
Holiday Inn This Summer
Holiday Inn(R), the most recognized lodging brand in the
world, and Nickelodeon, the number-one kids entertainment brand, have
joined forces for a two-year promotion tied to The SpongeBob
SquarePants(TM) Movie, it was recently announced by Mark Snyder, senior
vice president for brand management, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts, and
Pam Kaufman, senior vice president, marketing, Nickelodeon.
The first iteration of the partnership begins with the return of the
popular Holiday Inn(R) "Dinner's on Us" summer promotion. Holiday Inn
will debut a new "Bikini Bottom Bites" kids' menu featuring SpongeBob
SquarePants-influenced meals like Squidward Cereal, Plankton Pancakes and
Mindy's Mac & Cheese. Kids can enjoy Patrick Pizza while completing
SpongeBob crossword puzzles and mazes on the Bikini Bottom Kids' Corner
activity sheet. Further promotional plans include support for the opening
of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie on November 19 and support for the
release of the movie on DVD in 2005. The Bikini Bottom Bites menu will
be available through 2005.
"SpongeBob SquarePants is number one with kids, and Holiday Inn is number
one with families," said Mark Snyder, senior vice president for brand
management, Holiday Inn Hotels and Resorts. "Partnering with Nickelodeon
to bring SpongeBob alive in all Holiday Inn hotels this summer enhances
the great value 'Dinner's On Us' already provides and creates an
award-winning combination that brings 'family friendly' to a whole
different level."
In addition to the kids menu, "The SpongeBob SquarePants(TM) Summer" will
bring SpongeBob to life in the "Krabby Korner" and "Bikini Bottom Splash"
at participating Holiday Inn SunSpree(R) Resorts properties in the U.S.
and Caribbean. The Krabby Korner is a themed activity area in the lobby
featuring a SpongeBob play tent, activity table and chairs and Bop Bags
with a TV/DVD player and Sony PlayStation2 unit. The SpongeBob Lending
Library has SpongeBob cartoons, board games, a video game, playing cards
and books that kids can check out for use in the Krabby Korner - kids can
kick back and watch their favorite SpongeBob episodes 'til the captain
calls, or compete with their buddies playing the SpongeBob video game.
The Bikini Bottom Splash pool area features SpongeBob tunes along with
inflatable rafts and kickboards available for check-out, and even
SpongeBob ice cream at some U.S. properties. Guests can also collect a
series of four SpongeBob keycards made especially for SunSpree Resorts.
"Dinner's on Us"
When parents log on to
www.holiday-inn.com/freedinner or call 1-800-HOLIDAY and request the
"Free Dinner" rate, they'll receive a voucher worth up to $24 ($12 per
person maximum) at the hotel restaurant for each night of their stay.
Combined with the Kids Eat Free program, a Holiday Inn standard where
children 12 and under accompanied by a dining adult eat free when
ordering from the hotel's Kids Menu, families won't have to worry about
paying for dinner on their vacation. More than 60,000 families took
advantage of the promotion last year. The "Dinner's On Us" promotion
runs through September 6, 2004, and is available at all Holiday Inn
Hotels and Resorts in the United States and Canada.
In addition, this year when guests stay under the "Dinner's On Us" rate
and pay with their American Express card, children will receive a
SpongeBob SquarePants plush toy at check-in. Children five and older
have the alternative option of selecting a SpongeBob SquarePants personal
digital assistant (PDA) toy.
