Ontario Place opens Go-Zone and new
attractions to mark
"Summer's Here" 2003 and www.hotelfun4kids.com
had to check it out.
For the first time in Ontario Place's over 30 years, this
landmark attraction, located on Toronto's Waterfront, introduces a whole new
generation of attractions on Adventure Island, three of which are part of the new
Go-Zone and one that adds driving skills to the adventure.
The new attractions encompass four new rides geared towards
children 13 and under that are sure to be a hit. As one of our annual
summer attraction hot spots, the new Go-Zone and attractions warranted a visit to check it
out. Here's what we found:
H20 Generation Station
Rising above the lake, the
H20 Generation
Station
is the largest outdoor climbing structure of its kind in
Canada!
Featuring more than 50 exciting play elements, the
H20 Generation Station
offers boundless opportunities for fun,
excitement and interactivity designed for kids ages 6 to 13.
|
Tumbling, climbing and sliding their way
through while testing their dexterity, hand-eye
coordination and agility, kids are thrilled as they explore this
state-of-the-art
climbing structure. |
Highlights of the new
H20 Generation Station include:
- The exhilarating Altitube - A windowed and webbed crawl
tube suspended 30 feet above the GoZone!
- Twisting, multi-level slides, including two huge, four-story
corkscrew tubes!
- Lookout towers and view ports for a bird's eye view of the action
below!
- Climbing platforms, horizontal climbing walls and wiggling webs!
- Ball play, squeeze-through foam bumpers and hanging punch bags!
- Obstacle challenges, wall mazes, pendulum mazes and 3-D
tic-tac-toe!
- Mechanical features - With steam billowing from the generator's
smokestack, the clock
keeps time and a programmed audio show keeps kids up to speed on the
action!
-
The Hydro Cave Show - As the kid-pressure created in the
Station builds, it raises the hydrostatic pressure in the core of the
generator. When all attempts to control the increasing pressure fail, the
core explodes in a powerful release of energy that sends thousands of
gallons of water pouring over the top of the Hydro Cave!
Microkids Presented by Holiday Inn
Microkids provides more than 3000 square feet of safe indoor play
activities designed specifically for toddlers and preschoolers! Moms and dads can participate in the play action or simply watch as the
kids play with foam animals, climb up and over soft multi-level platforms,
slip down wave slides and the triple slide, negotiate the mini balance
beam and put soft, foam balls into play on the levitation table.
Soft play
elements and padding on walls, floors and posts make this a very safe play
environment for younger children. It's a busy spot and a great place
to get some shade on a hot day.

The Atom Blaster
|
It's a foam-ball free-for-all! The Atom Blaster is Canada's largest
foam-ball play facility and features more than 4000 square feet of safe,
interactive fun on two levels. |
This action-packed attraction encourages
children to interact with the environment and each other.
An open concept design allows children and families to move from one
activity to another at their own pace. The mezzanine-level catwalk offers an
exciting view of the non-stop action below and features rail-mounted ball
canons to blast foam balls at the kids below.
The Atom Blaster is filled with thousands of soft, multi-coloured balls
and a multitude of unique activities to send the balls blasting in all
directions. Children create their own fun by manipulating the action and
learning various ways that air streams can influence the balls.
Some of the exciting action elements include:
-
Ball blasters and canons
-
Ball vacuums and volcanoes
-
Tipping baskets and ball funnels
-
Ball levitation tables
-
Air-pressured ball Mountains
-
Overhead web bridge and Dump slides and spiral slides.
Here are some balls being blasted my way. While the balls are shot out
of the blasters, the foam makes them soft and light weight, giving the
impression of slow motion. Kids have a ball, literally, trying to blast
parents, other kids and siblings. |
|
At The Atom Blaster, no two visits are alike!
O.P. Driving School
The O.P. Driving School puts the kids behind the wheel on a
realistic driving course, combining education and fun!
Children ages 6 to 13 are briefed on the rules of the road before taking it
to the street in brightly coloured electric cars, sized just for them! Then
the fun begins as the 'pupils' learn to steer, accelerate and brake on a
course featuring road signs, markings and traffic lights on multiple roadways and streets.
|
You can see how much fun our nine year old had testing this ride
just by looking at the smile on his face. A definite hit (as
long as he doesn't hit the other cars)!!! |
After completing the course, kids can even pose for photographs at the
official O.P. Driving School photo wall -just like a real Ontario
Drivers' Licence.
