The Canadian Children’s Museum in Canada's
Capital Region
|
A Child’s Passport to Adventure
and a new Exhibit is a Family’s Passport to Celebrating 60 years
of Kid’s TV on CBC
|
The Canadian Children’s Museum, part of the Canadian Museum of
Civilization, located in Canada's Capital Region takes children
on an exciting journey through creative cultural exhibits
designed to teach them about the world.
November 3, 2001 saw the opening of "Show and
Tell: Growing Up Canadian" which runs to May 6,
2002. Clifford the Big Red Dog and Franklin the Turtle
were just some of the special guests on hand to launch
this new exhibit. |
|
Produced in partnership with the CBC Museum in Toronto, this
exhibition celebrates 60 years of CBC Programming for Children.
Parents visiting the museum will enjoy reminiscing their own
childhood while exploring this exhibit as a family. More than
200 puppets, costumes, props and memorabilia from shows like The
Friendly Giant, Mr. Dressup, Bobino, and French Language
children’s programming from Radio-Canada take museum goers
from the past to the present as today’s current generation of
children will also find their favourite programs represented in
the exhibit. Interactive stations offer the opportunity to
design a puppet, go behind the scenes in a television studio or
experience the view from a camera operator’s eyepiece.
The Travel Bureau is the place to start as children pick up
their passport to adventure.
|
Throughout the museum’s permanent
exhibits passport stations lead families through
interactive displays. Kids eagerly travel from station
to station, stamping their passport along the way,
making sure that they visit each locale. |
Families can take an audio journey on a Pakistani bus through
seven international cities at the Crossroads and learn how
people around the world share information and goods.
The International Village explores different activities from
countries like Nigeria, Mexico, Japan, India, Indonesia, lets
children learn about toys and games from around the world and
get a glimpse of daily activities that play a role in other
societies.
A popular resting spot for parents is the Kid’s Café,
where youngsters can discover different kinds of food and learn
about the serving techniques of other lands.
During the summer the fun continues in Adventure World. Here
visitors are transported to a park where play and imagination
are celebrated in the great outdoors.
As a part of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the
Canadian Children’s
Museum offers families a year-round program of fun activities,
special events and endless ways to learn about the world.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization also houses an Imax Theatre with
tilt back seats that take the audience on fantastic journeys of
sight and sound.
Permanent exhibits of the Museum include:
The Grand Hall featuring a gallery with 43 authentic totem
poles and exhibits focusing on the Native Peoples of the
Northwest Coast.
First Peoples Hall, which is dedicated to Canada’s Native
People.
The Postal Museum
Canada Hall, that recounts 1,000 years of Canada’s History
under a domed ceiling.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization hosts over 15 temporary and
travelling exhibits each year.
