The CN Tower Turns
28 on June 26, 2004 - What's New
The World's Tallest Building and Canada's Wonder of the Modern World
continues to thrill visitors.
The Glass Floor Celebrates 10th Anniversary in 2004
The first of its kind in the world, dare to walk on air experience, this
popular attraction offers a view 342m straight down to the ground!
The
Glass Floor officially opened June 26, 1994, and is dedicated to the over
1,500 people who had originally designed and built this Wonder of the
Modern
World.
The Glass Floor took 3 months to engineer and test to ensure its safety
and
durability, and it continues to undergo safety and durability tests on a
regular basis.
The Glass Floor consists of 6 types of glass of varying
thickness, which are tempered, petrified for hardness and laminated
together. The final seamless product appears to be an ordinary piece of
glass. But one look at the children and adults who dare to bound across
and
you are convinced it is extraordinary.
In fact, the Glass Floor has the
strength to hold 38,556 kg (85,000 lbs) or 14 hippos... if we could find a
way to get them up the elevators!
CN Tower Presents World Premiere of
Lego Racers
The Ride
The CN Tower is pleased to present the world premiere of Lego Racers -
The
Ride, a new animated 4 ½ minute Simulator Ride Experience beginning May
2004.
Created by SimEx-Iwerks, Lego Racers - The Ride is based on the
popular Lego Racers toy line and inspired by the exciting Legoland Lego
Racers 4D attraction.
Using state of the art motion technology, multimedia and audio, Lego
Racers
- The Ride features racecar drivers Max Axel, the daredevil young hero
from
the Nitro Race Team and Sever, the sinister opponent from the Exo Force
Team. As they fly through a changing landscape ranging from mountains and
ice caves to a sprawling city, the audience experiences the thrills of the
race right along with them.
Each time Max and his pit crew find
themselves
in a tough spot, teamwork, creativity and imagination save the day,
reinforcing the Lego theme of experimentation, rebuilding and
empowerment. CN Tower, the birthplace of innovative experiences: through the
imagination
of a dynamic group of creative, engineering and management talents
including
Canadian television entrepreneur,
City TV's Moses Znaimer, the simulator
theatre experience was pioneered in 1983. One of the earliest
experiences,
Tour of the Universe, was launched in 1986 at the CN Tower and the
simulator ride has been thrilling visitors from all over the world ever
since. This was the first leisure application of sophisticated
flight simulation, previously known only to pilots and experts in the
aviation field. The simulator ride experience was later adopted by
major theme parks and attractions around the world including Disney.
