Sudbury, ON - Looking for a way to keep the kids busy during
March Break? Look no further! Sudbury's Dynamic Duo - Science North and
Dynamic Earth -
is offering a ton of fun activities for the whole family.
SCIENCE NORTH - THINK FAST!
A New Special Exhibition presented by Ford and Persona
Science North has a brand new Special Exhibition - Speed, for
'speedsters' of all ages. Using examples from racecars to roller coasters and
using cutting-edge research, Speed will engage you in both the scientific and
human qualities of going fast. Speed is included with Science Centre admission.
Speed is supported by Shell and Mr. Lube. Media sponsors are MCTV, The
Sudbury Star, and 105.3 EZ Rock. SPEED was developed by COSI Columbus with
support from the National Science Foundation and in cooperation with the
Science Museum Exhibit Collaborative.
Admission to the Science Centre also includes four floors full of hands-on
science exploration and family fun including Wings Over the North: A 4D Bush
Plane Adventure and the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery.
Pulse-racing IMAX® Adventures
IMAX Adventures for March Break include NASCAR: The IMAX
Experience, Coral Reef Adventure, Young Black Stallion and Kilimanjaro: To the
Roof of Africa. The IMAX Theatre is open every day and evening starting March
11. Enjoy a
delicious three-course dinner in Landings Restaurant when purchased with
an IMAX film experience, for only an additional $19.95 per person (plus
tax & gratuity).
New Virtual Voyages Ride
Shake, Rattle and Roll your way through March Break on our Virtual Voyages
motion simulator ride with the new LEGO® Racers ride and an exciting Deep Sea
voyage. Virtual Voyages Rides are sponsored locally by Pepsi.
March Break Day Camps
Science North is also offering a variety of day camps for ages 4
to 14, starting on the March 11 PA day including the popular March Break Madness
camp.
Landings Restaurant - New Menu Landings Restaurant has brand new
menus for lunch and dinner. Enjoy a wide variety of delicious dishes - steaks &
seafood, chicken & ribs, pasta, lighter entrées, mouthwatering appetizers,
soups, salads, sandwiches and more. Bring your own wine to complement your meal
or choose from the great selection on the Landings wine menu. Landings is open
every day and evening starting March 11.
DYNAMIC EARTH - HAVE A BLAST!
Have a blast this March Break at the newest family attraction in the North
- Dynamic Earth. This interactive earth sciences centre will take you on
an unforgettable journey to the depths of the Earth and the far reaches of
the globe. Be awed by the mighty forces of nature and their powerful
impact on world cultures. Board a glass-enclosed elevator and descend
7-storeys into an impressive rock chasm while viewing a state-of-the-art
multimedia show. Then, don a miner's hat, enter an underground tunnel, and
witness the mining of our planet's precious cargo and the dramatic
transformation mining techniques have taken over the last century.
Back on the surface, explore two galleries full of fascinating exhibits.
Uncover intriguing evidence of the massive meteorite impact that created
the Sudbury Basin nearly two billion years ago. Take a seat in the
Generations Barbershop and see Nickel City Stories, an engaging account of
the events that shaped Sudbury's 120-year history. Take your picture next
to the world's biggest 'chunk of change' - the famous Big Nickel!
New this Season
The Science Behind Tsunamis
This exhibit explores how tsunamis are created and where they are likely
to occur. Understand plate tectonics and how earthquakes are formed.
This is the Earth in its most dynamic state.
A Dynamic Live Science Show
"What's it made of?" This lively and interactive science show will reveal
some surprising facts about minerals - learn the connection between
minerals and brushing your teeth, putting on makeup or using electronics.
How many minerals play a part in your daily activities? You'll be amazed -
minerals play a much more important role in your life than you think!
Special March Break Programming
March 12 to 31 - A Special Display of Rare Rocks & Minerals
Come and experience Nature's own treasures! Minerals from the National
Collection at the Canadian Museum of Nature will be on display at Dynamic
Earth from March 12 to 31. The National Mineral Collection contains more
than 52,000 specimens, including over 60 holotypes and 170 cotypes. With
the acquisition of the William Pinch collection, Nature's Canadian mineral
component is the finest in the world. Come and experience a rare
behind-the-scenes glimpse at minerals not generally on public display,
including a selection from the Pinch collection, gold crystals and
rhodonite from British Columbia, rare species such as serandite and
catapleiite from the famous Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, and other
mineralogical wonders from across Canada and overseas.
March 15 & 16 - 'Rockin' Careers!
Come and learn about careers in geology and engineering. Laurentian
University will have a display at Dynamic Earth March 15 & 16 with
information on careers in these exciting fields. Laurentian University
Faculty members will be on hand to answer your questions from 10 a.m. - 3
p.m. on Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
March 17 & 18 - 'Heavy' Stuff!
Learn all about the 'heavy' subject of heavy equipment in mining.
Students and faculty from Cambrian College will be at Dynamic Earth during
operating hours on Thursday and Friday to demonstrate the use of
electronic diesel emissions analysis equipment and an electronic engine
simulator.
